Trekking tour to the waterfall of Sa Giuntura
Our Trekking tour to the waterfall of Sa Giuntura (Urzulei)
The one-day trekking tour to Sa Giuntura waterfall is an amazing adventure in the heart of the Supramonte, near Urzulei. In a rugged and wild area there is a point where two streams meet, Rio Flumineddu and Rio Orbisi, responsible for the formation of deep gorges in the mesozoic limestone.
The trek begins in Sedda ar Baccas. We can observe an ancient sheepfold of the Supramonte, the remains of a giants’ tomb dated back to the nuragic age (about 1500 years BC) and a magnificent specimen of a thousand-year-old yew. Then the ancient “iscala ‘e fustes”, a passage in juniper wood built by shepherds, will lead us into the gorge carved by the Rio Flumineddu.
The excursion continues up the huge ledges and the high limestone walls of the gorge, until we reach the Gorropu Nuraghe. From here we can see the top of Punta Corrasi, the nearby Nuraghe Mereu, the Mount Silana and the southern part of the Gorropu canyon. Moreover, it’s easy to spot the golden eagle or the mouflons running on the ridges.
The next stop of our trek is the point where the two rivers join, called Sa Giuntura waterfall. Surely the most evocative place in Supramonte! The rock balconies, which delimit the course of the river have been eroded and form folds similar to petrified waves. A real natural amphitheater, which contains a small enchanted lake.
The last stage is the splendid grotto of Pischina Urtaddala, often frequented by mouflons searching water.
This excursion will make us discover the secrets of a still uncontaminated environment and live a unique experience, in isolated and magnificent places. Contact us to book your guided tour or if you want to ask more info!
