Trekking tour to Su Sercone (Su Sielhone)
Our trekking tour to Su Sercone (Su Sielhone)
The one-day trekking tour to Su Sercone (Su Sielhone) sinkhole starts from the Lanaitho valley: the gateway to the Supramonte of Orgosolo. We walk inside a karst gorge, where huge holm oaks have developed in height along the rocky walls to reach the few light that illuminates the canyon.
We gradually rise in altitude to reach a pass, hidden by a dense forest of holm oaks, junipers and phylliree. We are in the territory of Orgosolo: a few steps separate us from the impressive Su Sielhone depression, the deepest karst sinkhole in Europe with a diameter of 500 meters and a depth of 200.
Definitely this is one of the most beautiful trekking routes in Sardinia. The breathtaking view of the majestic sinkhole will give you unique emotions.
After a short break we continue the excursion and reach a large karst plateau, Campu Donanigoro, to admire an amazing view of the Supramonte of Oliena, Orgosolo and Dorgali.
This area has been very important over the centuries: many people have lived here, as evidenced by the nuraghe and the numerous sheepfolds.
Anyway, nowadays Donanigoro is the kingdom of mouflons, which find nourishment in this grassy plain. At this point it’s time to walk the way back, enjoying the evocative views, the unique sceneries and the silence that reigns in these wild areas.
